Lynn Harold Richards, 73, of Fielding, Utah was reunited with his sweetheart, Christy, on Thursday, January 18, 2024, when he passed from this life in his home in Fielding, Utah.
Lynn was born on December 26th, 1950, in Tremonton, Utah, to Rex E Richards and Annette Nicholas Richards ... just four years after the birth of his "twin sister" Randee. He was the fourth child in a family of seven children.
As a child and throughout his life, Lynn was a quiet, thoughtful, peacemaker. He rarely sought attention or the spotlight. He seldom, if ever, lost his temper or said anything foul or hurtful. He had a tender heart and avoided contention and confrontation, choosing to value individuals and relationships over possessions or points of view. He was a humble example of Christlike love, possessing the attributes of faith, honesty, generosity, integrity, loyalty, and charity.
Lynn grew up working on the farm with his dad and brothers. He loved animals and if a chore or activity had anything to do with horses, he wanted to be a part of it. Whether it was hooking the ponies, Dot and Midnight, up for a cart ride, or taking off on horseback for an overnight campout with friends, he was there. Work on the farm also afforded him many opportunities to spend cherished time with his dad.
Lynn loved sports, especially football and wrestling. Growing up, he wrestled with his dad and brothers and played Sunday afternoon football games with his brothers and friends. He went on to play football and wrestle at Bear River High School, lettering in both sports. During his high school years, he was also part of the A Capella Choir and served as Junior Class President.
The love story of Lynn and Christy Harris of Tremonton, Utah, began when they met in Junior High School. They were inseparable. They dated through high school and just a few months after graduation, were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on September 3,1969. They were blessed with two daughters and five sons: Karen (Shawn Moyes) of Tremonton, Utah; Lynn Jay (Dawn) Richards of Boerne, Texas; William Dirk (Dawn) Richards of Fielding, Utah; Nicholas Rex Richards (Amber) of Fielding, Utah; Camille (Ryan Leishman) of Nibley, Utah; David Ross Richards (Adri) of Tremonton, Utah; and Timothy Craig Richards, deceased.
Though he expressed it in quiet, softer ways, Lynn loved big. He served whenever and wherever he could. His family and those he loved brought him immense joy and he would do whatever he needed to do to help them.
Lynn was a farmer and a rancher. Shortly after marrying Christy, he worked for a time for Wynn Hansen, who was impressed with his skill with animals and wanted badly to convert him to raising sheep, but Lynn’s heart was set on raising cattle. He and Christy worked together to build what ultimately became the Dumped Luck Ranch, deriving the name from Lynn’s brand; an upside-down flying U that looked like an overturned pot. Lynn loved raising cattle and would jokingly say that he only farmed so he'd have something to complain about. His favorite escape was to put a couple of horses in the trailer and take a drive to Cherry Creek, and later, King Creek, in Idaho to go for a ride, check on his cows and get re-centered. His career, much like his father’s, provided ample opportunities for his children and later, his grandchildren, to work and spend cherished time with their dad and grandpa as well.
Lynn is survived by six children, 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild who he and Christy loved dearly and are their legacy.
