Margaret Perry

May 20, 1925 — March 10, 2013

Margaret Hess Perry died peacefully March 10, 2013, at the Cache Valley Assisted Living in Providence, UT. She was two months shy of her 88th birthday. Margaret joins her eternal sweetheart, M D Perry who preceded her in death.

Mom was born May 20, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Kenneth Lyman Hess and Venna Isabel Hales. She was raised in Garland, Utah, where she spent many enjoyable years with her family. Mom graduated from Bear River High School in Garland. She and her cousin Marie made blue graduation suits in home economics and wore them at their graduation. She also attended Utah State University for several years when her family was a little older. Mom married M D Perry on October 2, 1942, in the Logan LDS Temple. They enjoyed 61 years of life together before M D passed away October 13, 2003.

They were blessed with four children, Mary Morgan (Vaughn), Schertz, Texas, Michael Dean (Mary) Perry, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Marcia (Randy) Burbank, Hyrum, Utah and Melanie (Dee) Alexander, Layton, Utah, 17 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren. M D joined the army shortly after they were married and they spent some time in Tyler, Texas and Tacoma, Washington. After being released from the service they moved to West Weber where they ran a grocery store for several years. They settled in Deweyville, Utah where they raised their family.

Mom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many positions serving gladly as President of the Primary, Young Women’s and Relief Society organizations. She served as the coordinator of Jr. Sunday School. She was also PTA President and served as the secretary of the Bear River Jr. High PTA. Mom was an excellent homemaker. She loved to cook, and delighted her family trying many new recipes. She was also an excellent seamstress sewing many of the clothes for her children. She loved piecing quilts and each child and grandchild was the glad recipient of one on graduation from High School, or as they started married life. She loved to machine embroider and made many sets of dishtowels. She crocheted many beautiful afghans for new babies and loved to try anything new. She was so talented and enjoyed sharing this talent with others. Mom spent many years working as a receptionist/bookkeeper for several of the Doctors in the Tremonton area. She fulfilled not only the duties of a receptionist but helped with injections, simple surgeries and any other duties needed at the time. She also worked for the IRS as a Tax Examiner and earned several awards for her strong work ethic. Mom faced many health challenges in the later years of her life. She faced them with grace and dignity always trying to find ways to serve others with her talents, and offering kind words of encouragement and love for others. She is now free of her physical limitations.

Mom is survived by her children, two brothers, Lowell Kenneth (Nita) Hess, Plano, Texas, Neil Lynn (Camille) Hess, Spartanburg, South Carolina, Sister Yvonne (Burke) Peterson, Aubrey, Texas and One sister-in-law, Margaret Perry (Norman). She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her husband, two grandchildren, Robert Scott Morgan and Marcie Jo Burbank, and Son-in-law Vaughn Morgan.

We would like to give a special thanks to the staff and facility at the Cache Valley Assisted Living for lovingly caring for our mom the past few years. Also a special thanks to the nurses at Access Home Care and Hospice for their care and concern for Mom. A special thanks also to the Deweyville ward for their acts of kindness to mom the last few years.
