Margaret Ann Palmer

“I want to go home” were the words mom left us all with. She returned to one of her cherished homes on Friday, December 1, 2017. Home, whether Heaven; Kimberly, Idaho; or Tremonton, Utah was always her safe, happy place. She was born on January 11, 1939 in Long Beach, California to Dudley Thomas and Edith Engra Olsen Whittle. At two months old, her family wrapped her up, put her in a basket and drove with her to their new home in Kimberly, Idaho. She grew up there on the family farm where she developed her love for small animals and the outdoors. She was happiest tagging along with her daddy in the fields and riding the tractor. Her sisters Sylvia and Melba were her best friends throughout her life.

She dreamed of creating her own home, and married Paul Wight Palmer on November 17, 1961.  They raised their six children; Rosa Lee, Wayne Thomas, Marianne Whittle, Jeannie Lynne, Barbara Ellen, and Paul Andrew, in Tremonton. Her heart broke when she lost her stillborn son Peter, but looked forward to meeting that tiny spirit.  She was blessed with and loved her daughters- and sons-in-law as her own; Todd, Wendy, Bish, Eric, Jason, and Lisa. She adored her 19 grandchildren and was cherished by her 8 great-grandchildren, who called her “Grandma Grape.” She was tickled to hear about another two that will join their families next year.

She shared her creative talents working at the Sunflower Shop and Village Dry Goods, selling quilts at craft shows and she was especially known for her storytelling. At Christmastime, she was scheduled by church, civic and school groups to share stories of the miracles of the season.

Mom was a quiet, simple lady and was happiest serving others behind the scenes. She accepted all church callings offered. In recent years, she enjoyed attending the temple weekly with one of her dearest friends.

In honor of mom, and because she avoided public display, we encourage donations in lieu of flowers. The Garland City Library was where she visited weekly as she became an avid reader in her older years. She is also proud of her grandchildren who have served missions, including the three who have currently accepted calls throughout the world. Contributions with those services in mind would give her pleasure.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at the Tremonton Stake Center (660 N. 300 E., Tremonton, UT). Viewings will be held on Monday evening, December 4, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. at the Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home (111 N. 100 E., Tremonton, UT) and on Tuesday morning at the Stake Center prior to the funeral service from 10:30- 11:30 a.m.
