Marian Anderson

July 28, 1937 — July 7, 2014

Marian Carter Anderson passed away July 7, 2014, in South Ogden, Utah, following several battles with cancer. She was born July 28, 1937, in Garland, Utah, into a loving home consisting of her parents James Lawrence and LaVona Garn Carter, and four older siblings. Raised on the family farm, Marian learned the importance of hard work, thriftiness, laughter and family.

She attended Garland Elementary, and graduated from Bear River High School in 1955, where she enjoyed many activities and clubs. Marian had a beautiful singing voice, and she excelled in choir, which provided her with many new experiences, including traveling by train with other choir members to a national music convention in Chicago. This was an experience she cherished her entire life.

Following high school, she attended Weber College for one year to study nursing.

Marian married Byron C. Anderson on January 14, 1956, at her parent's home in Garland, Utah, theywere sealed in the temple in 1976. Together they raised four sons. Being the only girl in the family, Marian quickly learned to adapt. She supported her boys in all their activities including football, baseball, wrestling, band, choir, hunting, fishing, scouting, missionary service and any trial they faced. The family enjoyed Christmas mornings, Thanksgivings at Grandmas and trips to Yellowstone and Disneyland. She was a loving mother who always put her children first and sacrificed to ensure they were able to enjoy various activities. She taught her sons the value of hard work, by encouraging them to take paper routes, and putting them to work hoeing sugar beets for their Grandpa Carter.

Marian and Byron were later divorced.

Marian worked for John Hurley DDS in Tremonton, Utah. She also worked at Bear River State Bank in Tremonton, and Wells Fargo bank in Salt Lake City before retiring in 2003.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as a Primary teacher, a Mia Maid instructor, a Ward Librarian and a visiting teacher.

Marian loved quilting, crocheting afghans, music, antiques and collecting depression glass. She made a quilt and an afghan for each of her children and grandchildren. Marian loved to be around her grandchildren and enjoyed summer visits with them; she also enjoyed spending time with her siblings who were among her best friends. Her sense of humor and strong will allowed her to overcome many of the challenges she faced in life.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, and one son, Shawn Mitchell Anderson, who passed away on her birthday, five years ago, and two brothers-in-law, LaVern Maisak and Roger Maisak.

She is survived by her children, Greg, Blair (Tammy), Scott (Kay), and daughter-in-law Nancy, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Doris Maisak, LaRene Maisak, Ralph (Janet) Carter and Joanne Greer.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Horizon Hospice Specialists (Janet, Kelli, Debbie, Sandy and Dr. Gary Christensen), as well as the nurses and staff at Manor Care Health Services.
