Our dear mother, Marilyn Manning Hollon, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2023 in her daughter’s home in Layton, Utah. Marilyn & her twin sister Carilyn were born and spent their childhood in Garland, Utah. They were blessed to be born to David Henry Manning and Elizabeth Thompson Manning and were the youngest of 6 beautiful girls.
Marilyn married the love of her life, Richard Hollon, on November 21, 1955 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They spent nearly 65 years together before Richard passed away on February 5, 2020 in their dream home in Clearlake, California.
Marilyn graduated from Bear River High School and went on to study music at BYU. After raising her 7 children, Marilyn went back to school & graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the San Francisco Academy of Arts, proving you are never too old to follow your dreams.
Marilyn received the Awards of Excellence in Fine Arts from the SF Arts Academy for displaying her lovely paintings. She also submitted art to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that was displayed in the Church History Museum.
She led a life committed to her beliefs and served faithfully in many church assignments. She loved working in the LDS Young Women’s Program and served as the Young Women’s Stake Camp Director for several years in the San Francisco Stake.
She had a passion for Scouting (Webelos) and designed several of the Boy Scouts of America patches for California. She often said that the Lord’s greatest invention was the “eleven-year-old-boy”.
One of Marilyn’s greatest achievements, next to raising her children, was working as the Choir Director for a multi-denominational choir in performing Handel’s Messiah.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hollon, and she leaves behind her children: Mike & Roshel Madsen Nixon, Richard & Ann Hollon, Wes Hollon, David & Ann Black, Monde & Lorie Murphy, Clay & Rene’ Hollon, Lance & Lexie Hollon. She has 25 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.
