Marjorie Simard

February 23, 1921 — May 1, 2014

Marjorie Lee McCowin Simard, age 93, passed away peacefully while sleeping in her home on Monday May 1, 2014. Despite her age and recent illness, her resilient nature and zest for life made her passing a surprise to the family.

She was born February 23, 1921, in Ammon, Idaho Falls, Idaho, in a back bedroom of her Grandparents' ranch house to Alma Lee Hensell and Aaron Burley McCowin. She later moved with her mother and two brothers to Logan, Utah, the town that she would always cherish.

She graduated from Logan High School in 1938 and lived in Logan until she married Victor Louis Simard Jr, a marine from Los Angeles who was stationed in Logan for training. They graduated from Utah State, and then moved to California with their young family where they lived for 26 years. They spent many years both in Hayward and Hacienda Heights where they made many friends that they loved. They were sealed in the Los Angeles temple in 1959.

In 1978, as they neared retirement, they moved back to Logan with their two youngest children. Victor passed away in 1994. In the 20 years since his passing, Marjorie lived life to its fullest--traveling around the world, hosting parties, visiting family, participating in book groups, attending the theater, and making everyone around her feel loved.

Marjorie taught elementary school for many years in East Los Angeles. When she was in her seventies she went back to school and earned an MED degree in gifted education from USU. She has supported countless college students.

She served in many positions in the LDS Church, including filling 4 missions. Marjorie had a firm testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ and his resurrection. Her greatest joy was her family. She looked forward to being with her husband and other family again.

Marjorie will be remembered for her quick wit, her giving nature, her exuberance for life, and her love and devotion to her many friends and family.

Marjorie and Victor have six children. Victor III (Wendy), Barbara Dennen (Frank), James (Shar), Diane Warren (Robert), Carolyn Chezik (Timothy), and Suzanne Reese (Robert). There are 28 much loved Grandchildren and 32 Great Grandchildren.

A funeral Service will be held Monday, May 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Logan 29th Ward LDS Chapel, located at 792 N. 500 E., Logan, UT. Burial will follow at the Logan City Cemetery.
