Biography

Tremonton - Mary (Chizuko) Hara Okada, passed away September 1, 2013. She was born April 18, 1928 in Utah. Mary grew up in Idaho on the family farm. She graduated from Caldwell High School in Caldwell, Idaho in 1948. After high school she moved to California and attended designing and seamstress school. She then returned to Utah and married Tetsu Okada on November 28, 1958 in the Honeyville Buddhist Temple.

Mary enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and Wendover. She was an avid Jazz fan. In her younger years she enjoyed drawing and designing clothes, even doing some sewing for famous people, but continued to make quilts for each grandchild. Mary held many positions in the Honeyville Buddhist Church.

She is survived by her children, Tami Fernandes, Jann (Ted) Stangler, Edie (Charles) Burt, Herb (Taryn) Okada; 11 Grandchildren; In-laws, Beb (Ila) Okada, Kenge (Marye) Okada, Joanne Okada, Kikuye Hara, Fumi Hara, Diane Hara and Reiko Hara. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, six brothers and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday September 7, at 1:00 pm at the Honeyville Buddhist Temple (3945 W. 6900 N. - Honeyville, UT) Friends may call Friday evening from 5-7 pm at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home ( 111 N. 100 E. - Tremonton, UT). Burial in the Tremonton Riverview Cemetery.
