It is with great sadness that the family of Melbourne Bruce Grow announces his unexpected death on April 17, 2018 at the age of 81. Melbourne, known to family and friends as “Mel,” was a life-long dairy farmer. Born, March 2, 1937, he grew up in Huntsville, Utah and graduated from Weber County High School in 1955. Mel trained as a professional mechanic and worked maintaining fleets for the 7-Up Bottling Company and the Weber County School District. In 1964, he returned to his roots as a dairy farmer taking over his wife’s family farm in Deweyville, Utah, from which finally retired at the age 74.
Mel was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served his church in many capacities. He married Nadine Barnard in the Logan LDS Temple in 1957. They were married for 53 years at the time of Nadine’s death in 2010.
Mel was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved being a farmer – working the land, tinkering with all things mechanical, caring for “critters” including his farm dogs and being outdoors.
Mel is survived by his daughters Kristine and Nanette, and his sons Bruce (Denise), Curtis (Michael) and Steven. He is also survived by his sister Donnabell, by 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents Leonard and Ethel, his sister Irene, his brothers Randall, Moyer and Craig, and a grandson Michael.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 21 in the Deweyville Ward House (10750 N. Hwy 38). Friends and family are invited to visit with the family prior to the services between 9 and 10:30 am. Interment will be in the Deweyville Cemetery.
