Melva Hill

June 11, 1939 — September 2, 2015

GARLAND – Melva Alice Hill, 76 passed away on September 2, 2015 at her home surrounded by family.   She was born to Joseph O. Sorensen Jr. and Melva R. Peterson on June 11, 1939 in Salt Lake City, UT.  After she graduated from Jordan High School, she met the love of her life at the local swimming pool.

Melva was sealed to Merrill Hill on May 18, 1957 in the Logan Temple and were blessed with six children: Randy (Donnette), Vera (Jeff), Shane (Camille), April (Scott), Misti (Brian), Jeff (Michelle).

While raising her family, Melva’s love of sports resulted in her helping to establish the women’s softball league in Bear River Valley.  She also loved the sports of bowling and golf, receiving many awards.  Melva was an avid pinochle player and was a member of the local pinochle club.   She passed on this love to family members, resulting in pinochle tournaments when the family gathers together.

Mom was a gifted poet with some of her writings featured in state competitions.   She shared her thoughts of wisdom daily to her children and grandchildren.   She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and her testimony of Jesus Christ never wavered.

Melva is survived by her six children, 21 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 2 sisters (Sharon, Tara) and 1 brother (Paul).  She is preceded in death by her sweetheart husband, Merrill; her parents, and one sister (Renee).

The family would like to offer a special thanks to granddaughter, Racheal for her long time love and support to grandma for the past ten years and a special thanks to granddaughter, Terri for love and service to grandma during her last days

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Garland 3rd, 4th & 5th Wards Chapel (175 S. Main St.) There will be a viewing prior to the service from 9-9:45 a.m. Burial will follow the service at the Garland Cemetery.
