Melvin Evans

Melvin Jones Evans, 80, passed away on November 11, 2016, at his home in Plymouth, Utah. He was born on August 30, 1936 in Malad, Idaho, the youngest of seven children to Jonah M. & Thelma Jones Evans.

He was raised in Malad where he attended school and graduated from Malad High School in 1955. After high school, he spent four years in the Navy, two years of which were served in Japan.

After being discharged from the Navy, Mel returned to Malad and took a job working for Thiokol. Shortly thereafter he met Sharon, and they were married on May 10th, 1963 in Malad, the marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. In 1965 Mel took a job with Vern Thomas Plumbing in Ketchum, Idaho and moved his family there. In 1975 he started his own company, Mel Evans Plumbing. Mel and Sharon raised their four children and worked in the business until their retirement. In 2012 they moved to Plymouth, Utah where they have spent the last four years.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and loved serving in his various callings. He and Sharon were called as service missionaries at the Institute for Special Needs in Tremonton. Serving in that calling brought him great joy. Mel was a hard worker all of his life. He loved to keep busy and took pride in maintaining his home and yard.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Sheryl, Steve, Bryan (Janet), and Tyler (Bori); 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Rex, Jonah Jr., Bob, and Ed; and sisters, Ila Dell Bird and Jayne Price.

Funeral services for Mel will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Plymouth Ward LDS Chapel (16925 N. 5200 W., Riverside), conducted by Bishop Roland Christensen. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9 -10:30 a.m. Interment at the Malad Cemetery to follow. There will also be a memorial service in Ketchum, Idaho at the Sun Valley Ward at 300 Spruce conducted by Bishop Matt Parke on November 25th at 11:00 am.
