Merlene Woodland

July 19, 1950 — July 14, 2023

Merlene Woodland, 72, of Garland, UT passed away peacefully on July 14, 2023 at Rocky Mountain Care Center in Clearfield UT after a long journey of illness and heartache of which she is now free. She is happy and whole and in the loving arms of family through the merits of her brother and Savior Jesus Christ.

Merlene “The Queen” was the third of five children, born on July 19,1950 to Merlin Edward Woodland and Myrtle Louise Mortensen. She attended Ogden City Schools and graduated from Ogden High School in 1968.  In 1970 she married Roger Thompson and soon after had her sons Darin and Matthew by her side. In 1976 she married David Stone and moved to what would be her last home in Garland Utah.  It was there that Holly, Scott and Justin would round out her little team.  Parenting, mostly as a single mother, she would do her best to raise her five children with the help of family, loyal friends and incredible Garland 3rd Ward Saints, past and present, who would help lift her burdens.

Merlene was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt who loved her family.

Merlene was preceded in death by her parents, her children Darin Thompson, Holly Stone and Justin Stone, Grandson Bryken Simmons, sister Paulette Bybee and brother in law Kennard Bybee and a niece Michele Woodland Baccarella. She is survived by her sons Matt (April) Thompson, West Point UT; Scott (Tiffany) Stone, Elwood UT; as well as 13 grandchildren: Dale (Sharee) Simmons, Matthew Stone, Mason (Brenna), Mia and Madden Thompson, MaeAnn, Garrett, Connor, Jaylee, Syndall, Channer, Briggs and Kinnick Stone, and 3 great-grandchildren.
