Nola Florence Garner McCombs, 87, died Tuesday morning, November 27, 2012, in Tremonton, Utah. Nola was born May 27, 1925, in Ogden, Utah, a daughter of Nathan Owen Garner and Florence Benson Garner. She spent her early childhood in Rupert, Idaho, where her father farmed with his brothers. When she was six he was killed in a farm accident. She and her two brothers and two sisters then moved with their mother to Newton, Utah. Nola was taught well by her mother, becoming a wonderful cook, gardener and seamstress. When she was 16 her mother died and she and her younger brother moved back to Rupert to live with her father's brothers. While there, she met Dale C. McCombs, who became her sweetheart. They were married in the Logan temple on November 11, 1942. They worked hard on a dairy farm to support their family, which grew to four children, teaching them the value of hard work and good clean fun. Nola's greatest joy was her family and caring for and serving others, always thinking of others before herself. She had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and served valiantly as Relief Society president and in other auxiliaries. She also loved genealogy work. Her hands were seldom idle: crocheting, embroidering, knitting, and cooking. People could feel of her love and special spirit whenever in her home. Though she was in constant, intense pain most of her adult life, she bore her trials without complaint, an example of faith and enduring. Nola and Dale served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Arizona, Holbrook area among the Navajo Indians, and treasured their experiences there. Nola was preceded in death by her sweetheart, Dale, her parents, one sister, Beth Thompson, two brothers, Lee Garner and Jay Garner, and two great grandchildren. She is survived by her four children: Jerry (Mary Beth) McCombs, Garland, Utah; Kaylene (Douglas) Mills, King Hill, Idaho; Rhonda (Ralph) Riser, Downey, Idaho; Alan (Vicky) McCombs, Hyrum, Utah. She also has 26 grandchildren, 89 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and two step great great grandchildren. Family and friends can express condolences and visit with the family at a viewing from 10:00- 11:30 on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at the Fielding Utah Stake Center, 4375 West 15600 North, Fielding, Utah. Funeral services will then follow at Noon. Interment in the Garland Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to BRVCC and CNS hospice for their loving care.
