Norma Lu Brough (Nana), 67, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 21, 2014. She was born February 19, 1947 in Evanston, Wyoming to Arthur Benjamin Brough and Lucile Jackson Brough. She was raised in Provo, Utah. According to her, growing up was not a necessity, but a choice. She moved to Garland when Mikela was almost two years old. She also lived in northern California and Arizona for several years, however, she returned home to Utah. She loved Arizona vacations to visit her family.
Norma was strong-minded and received her GED and her high school diploma by completing it one year after Mikela graduated from high school. She also completed college courses in California to extend her well-rounded education. She worked at several occupations; from pianos for Wurlitzer in Logan to working in Tremonton building La-Z-Boy chairs, to a first-rate bar maid, and later determined to be the top delivery “Goddess” at Domino’s pizza. She loved working because of the people she met along the way and always being on the move. During her life she met friends, young and old alike; no one was a stranger for long. All children adored her, as she adored them.
She is survived by her daughter, Mikela Johansen Bourne; grandchildren; McCoy Bourne, Jake (Becky) Bourne, great-grandson; Tyler Bourne, five brothers; George, Dan, Red, Gayl, Butch, and three sisters; Reta, Marie, Jane. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Her stubborn determination and independence enabled her to conquer cancer and overcome many obstacles. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Jeffrey Keyser and the many doctors, nurses, caregivers, family friends and others who offered care and comfort in the good AND THE BAD. Thanks for all the exceptional encouragement, laughs and jokes shared by many.
At Norma’s request, her body was donated to the University of Utah Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy; where she will further education and research to improve the quality of life for others. Her heart was always in search of ways she could assist others.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Rudd Funeral Home, 1234 South Main, Garland, Utah on Saturday, September 27, 2014, 10:00 - 11:00 am.
