Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Phyllis Holmgren Wood, 102, passed away peacefully May, 5, 2013, with her family by her side, at the home of her daughter.
Phyllis was born March 18, 1911, to David and Hilda Holmgren in Bear River City, Utah. She was the fourth of nine children. The Holmgren family moved from their home in Bear River City to Tremonton, Utah, in 1918.
Phyllis attended school in Tremonton and graduated from Bear River High School. She attended Utah State University and Weber College, and graduated from Weber Cosmetology School. Phyllis operated a beauty salon out of her home in Garland for 37 years.
Phyllis married James Wood April 14, 1942. Jim passed away June 10.1992. They had three sons, Rick Soderquist, Kent Soderquist, Jimmy Wood, and a daughter Pam Christensen.
Phyllis was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. When her children were young, she was active in Cub Scouts, PTA, Primary, and being a Relief Society Visiting Teacher for 53 years. In 2003, Mom moved to Ammon, Idaho, to live with her daughter. In 2009, Mom was sealed to Dad in the Idaho Falls Temple.
After Mom and Dad's retirement, they became Snowbirds for 17 years. They traveled to Canada, Mexico, Arizona, and surrounding states, where they met with relatives and many new friends. What an exciting time they had. Mom was very talented in stitching needlepoint pictures, oil painting and crocheting, which she gave lovingly to family and friends. In the last 10 years, you could always find Mom stitching; she completed 134 needlepoint pictures while living with her daughter. Mom was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved her family above all else.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Rick (Aloha) Soderquist, Reidsville, North Caroline, Kent (Kay) Soderquist, Logan, Utah, and Pam Christensen, Ammon, Idaho and a brother Lyle (Fee) Holmgren, Smithfield, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son Jimmy, three brothers, Daryl Holmgren, Wayne Holmgren and Warren Holmgren; and four sisters, Floy Holmgren, Winifred Stoddard, Ethel Stanger and DeEsta Sampson.
Mom, you are never far from thought and will always be in our hearts. We love you.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 8, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, in Tremonton. The Family will visit with relatives and friends for one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Bear River City Cemetery.
