Roger Dallin

August 17, 1940 — July 14, 2013

Roger Lynn Dallin, 72 of Bear River City, UT. left this earthly life with strength and courage on July 14, 2013. He was born on August 17, 1940 to Stephen Arnold Dallin and LaVon Iverson Dallin. He married Bette Ann Christensen Dallin on April 13,1962, (Friday the 13th) in the Logan Utah Temple, and enjoyed an amazing life together.

Roger saw many changes in his life. He would often share stories about his youth with little conveniences, he said about growing up without a water heater: "If I didn't put the metal milk can full of water outside to heat in the sun, I had a cold bath.” As a result, he certainly enjoyed the simple things in life.

He attended Bear River Elementary, Box Elder High School, Bear River High School and Weber State University.
He enjoyed hard work. As a youth, he enjoyed pushing cattle on horseback, a place where he was always comfortable. He enjoyed riding with the Box Elder County Mounted Sheriff's Posse as an accomplished horseman and marksman.
In addition, Rog’s favorite hobbies included time in the outdoors, hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was a master craftsman, making wood furniture and projects for those who asked him or as a surprise gift for the holidays, even if he wrapped them in newspapers.

As a professional, he worked as a computer programmer and always made good friends wherever he worked.
Roger was a committed member of his community and loved Bear River City. He served as a town council member and then as Mayor. He was always willing to help anyone in need in any way that he could.

He loved his country very much and would tear up when he saw “Old Glory” carried by a person riding a horse.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many positions and rubbing shoulders and working alongside the best.

He will be remembered by many as “the cowboy philosopher”, where he would council others in his own unique way, with sayings like, “Even a fish would not get into trouble if he would keep his mouth shut” and “courage is being scared to death & saddling up anyway”.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; Arnold and LaVon Dallin: sisters; Velma Graves, Margie Doughton and LaPreal "Tully" Johnson. He is survived by one sister, Arva Archibald, two brothers; Dennis Dallin and Terry Dallin, his wife Bette Ann C. Dallin of 51 Years, children; Jeff (Jan) Dallin-Bear River City, Utah, Chris (Candice) Dallin-Syracuse, Utah and Allyson (Kevin) Bowcutt of Robinson, Texas, 8 Grandchildren (one more on her way) and one great grandson (one more on his way).

A viewing will be held at the Bear River City LDS Meeting House (5870 North 4700 West) on Wednesday July 17, 2013 from 6-8:00 PM and July 18 from 9:00 - 10:45 AM followed by funeral services to be held at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in the Bear River City Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their love to all the wonderful doctors, nurses, caretakers and especially family, friends and neighbors who made Rog’s last days, worth living and comfortable. God bless you all. The Roger L. Dallin Family
