Royce Buttars Thompson a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday February 24th, 2025. He was 83 years old. He was born on May 30th, 1941, in Logan Utah to Herman Leroy Thompson and Jennie Buttars Thompson. Royce lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and quiet strength. He graduated from Logan High School in 1959. He honorably served in the Army for 10 years. Royce dedicated many years of his professional career to Utah Power and Light/ Rocky Mountain Power where he retired in 1989 only to be contracted right back by Rocky Mountain Power for another 11 years. Royce had a strong work ethic, meticulous attention to detail and an uncanny ability to fix anything with 88 tape or duct tape. He found great satisfaction in his work and formed lasting friendships with his colleagues.
Family was the cornerstone of Royce’s life. He married his high school sweetheart Mary Jean Andrus on February 27th, 1959, and they were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple on June 1st, 1964, for eternity. They have been married 66 years. Their love and partnership were an inspiration to all who knew them. He was a loving and supportive father to Janalee (Duane) Christensen, Julie (Norm) Scothern, Lesa (Bart) Hess, Marci (Tracy) Daun, Steven Troy (Camee) Thompson and John Todd (Kandee) Thompson who will forever cherish his guidance, wisdom, uncanny humor and his unwavering love. He adored his 15 grandchildren and his 32 great grandchildren and took immense joy in their laughter and in their accomplishments. He was always their biggest fan.
Royce had a great passion for the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and he especially enjoyed going to his cabin in Island Park. His gentle spirit, sense of humor and warm smile will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
He is survived by his loving wife Jean, his children, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, his sister Arba Jean Kerr and his Brother Tony James Thompson. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Maddie Lynn. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Anna Clarice Tolsen and his son in laws Craig Young and Tracey Daun.
Royce will be remembered for his ability to always make his family laugh, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who love him.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 11 A.M. Viewings will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, from 6-8 P.M. and prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 A.M. All services will be held at the Bear River City Church (5870 N 4700 W- Bear River City). Interment in the Bear River City Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed and can be found below.
