SALT LAKE -Sara Shumway White, our sweet, darling, and well-loved mother, grandmother and friend, died on December 29, 2014. Sara was born on November 9, 1918 in Garland, Utah to Mary Ann Thompson and John Jardine Shumway. She adored her parents and siblings, and was so proud and thankful to be a Shumway.

They married on August 26, 1937 in the Salt Lake Temple and had five beloved children. Sara had a close-knit network of family and friends, and was wonderful with people. Her quick wit and easy ability to chat endeared her to all who knew her.
Sara was incredibly creative, and it showed in a variety of ways. She enjoyed fabric, color and decorating, and delighted in planning her next project. She made her beautiful home her own through her expertise in furniture refinishing, sewing and decorating. Her projects were always finished with meticulous detail to workmanship and taste.
Her love of design and sewing was also manifest in her sense of fashion. She dressed impeccably and usually wore her own creations. Throughout her life she was admired for her stylish apparel.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many leadership positions, including president of the Relief Society and MIA. She loved music and was a long-time member of the ward choir.
