Ted D. “Rosie” Macfarlane Ted D. “Rosie” Macfarlane was born on Feb. 8, 1928, the son of Robert D. and Rowane Udy Macfarlane, the 10th of 12 children. Dad died on Feb. 14, 2010, from injuries sustained in an auto accident four days before. Dad was born in Garland and lived his entire life in Riverside, Utah. He attended the Riverside Elementary School and Bear River High School. He learned the value of hard work at an early age, a character trait which defined his life. When he was sixteen, he left home to work at the shipyards in the Portland area in support of the WWII effort. He was very proud of his service to his Country. On June 1, 1951, he married Lynette Irene Gardner; their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS temple. They were the parents of three children: Annette Rowane, Melanee Irene, and Kirk Ted. Mom passed away on April 15, 2003. Dad worked many jobs to support his family, but his real satisfaction came from starting his own trucking company, Macfarlane Salt Company, in 1967. He spent the next 33 years on the road driving over 2.5 million miles. In the mid-1970s, Dad and Mom purchased some land near Deep Creek Reservoir in Idaho. He spent the remainder of his life turning it into “Papa’s Place” – a magical haven for his children, grand-children, great-grandchildren and many, many friends and relatives. All of his life, Dad enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, tinkering at his many projects, trips to Wendover, and going to coffee with his life-long friend, Paul Forsberg. He was instrumental in the building and maintenance of the Riverside Park and was responsible for fireworks for many 4th of July celebrations. Dad was always proud of his ability to take care of his family and himself. He was a great friend and neighbor. Dad was preceded in death by his parents, wife, baby brothers Phillip, Nevin and Robert, adult brothers Leo and Reed, sisters Beth Bowcutt, Rowane Roundy, Leone White, and grandson, Jason. He is survived by his brothers Jay (Cleo) and Ferris (Arlene) Macfarlane and his sister Ardean (Ed) Millar, his children, Annette, Melanee, and Kirk and his wife Cherri, who Dad loved as another daughter, his much-loved grandchildren Kristi (Jared) Kent, Bridget (Shaun) Gray, and Scott Ted Macfarlane, and his great-grandchildren Ashlee, Katelyn and Mackenzie Kent; Kalan and Kyson Hester; and Klaysen and Kota Gray. He was a member of the Belmont 2nd ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 12:00 pm at the Belmont 2nd Ward, 16925 N 5200 W Garland Ut. Viewings will be held on Wednesday, February 17th 2010 from 6-8 pm and from10:30-11:40 am prior to the service at the church. Dad leaves us with a legacy of hard work, self-sufficiency, and facing life’s problems head on. Even though he is no longer with us, we’ll continue to draw strength from the lessons he taught us through his example of true grit.
