Thelma Austin

Tremonton- Thelma Halling Austin- 91 passed away on May 23, 2014 at the Bear River Valley Care Center in Tremonton where she resided the last year of her life. Thelma was born on June 13, 1922, the fifth of nine children born to Wilford Merrill Halling and Cora Jensen Halling in Mantua, Utah. She grew up in Mantua and graduated from Box Elder High School.
In 1942 Thelma met Harold Keith Austin while both were employed at the arsenal in Ogden, Utah during World War II. They were married November 20, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Just 10 days later Keith left to serve in the war.
Upon his return two years later, Thelma & Keith made their home in Tremonton where they raised five children. Thelma was happiest when she was with her children, grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Thelma enjoyed crocheting many doilies, knitting afghans, reading and camping with her family. Trips in the trailer to Yellowstone were special.
She was employed by Box Elder Scholl District as a cook and unit manager at the North Park Elementary School in Tremonton where she worked for many years.
Thelma is survived by four children: Jean (Stan) Humpherys, Sherman Austin, both of Tremonton, Utah; Carolyn (Dennis) Francom of Elwood, Utah; and Linda (Scott) Baxter of North Ogden, Utah; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a brother, Darwin (Karen) Halling of Mantua, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her husband (Keith), a daughter (Susan), three grandchildren, a great-great grandson, and four sisters, Bernice, Melba, Joan, Arlene and three brothers, Ray, Merrill and Clair.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday May 28, 2014 at the Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home (111 N. 100 E. Tremonton). A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9-10:30 a.m. at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Tremonton Riverview Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bear River Valley Care Center for the kind and tender care they gave to Thelma and CNS Hospice for their special help.
