Theo Steven "Skeeter" Coombs

February 24, 1932 — August 9, 2024

Theo Steven "Skeeter" Coombs, born February 24, 1932, in Logan, Utah, to Irvin and Alta Coombs, peacefully passed away on August 9, 2024, at the age of 92. A cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Skeeter was a beacon of quiet strength, patience, and dedication throughout his life.

Married to his high school sweetheart, Norma Hall Coombs, on October 19, 1951, in the Logan Utah Temple, Skeeter’s commitment to family was unwavering. Together, they raised four children: Michael, Cameron, Jami, and Curtis. His legacy extends to three sons- and daughters-in-law (Craig, David, and Wendi), 12 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild who fondly remember going to his farm to feed the cows and climb the haystacks.

A proud veteran, Skeeter served in the Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Spokane, Washington, and Alaska. His academic pursuits led him to Utah State University on the GI Bill, which propelled him into a successful career as an engineer. Skeeter worked for Boeing in Seattle and Thiokol Chemical Corporation in northern Utah, where he was part of the Minuteman missile project, the Space Shuttle, and the MX “Peacekeeper” project.

His devotion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was evident through his service in three missions: Rochester, New York; Cebu, Philippines; and Raleigh, North Carolina. Additionally, Skeeter contributed over 635,000 names to FamilySearch indexing, helping thousands of people find their ancestors.

Skeeter will be remembered for his quiet demeanor, his unwavering work ethic, and his love for his family. To honor his memory, a celebration of Skeeter’s life will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 11 AM (viewing for family and friends at 9:30) at the Tremonton Utah Stake Center (660 N. 300 E.). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the General Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Skeeter leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication that will be cherished by all who knew him. The service will be livestreamed and may be accessed below.

The Coombs family is deeply grateful to Birch Creek Assisted Living and Aegis Hospice for the care they gave to Skeeter.
