Tremonton

Vern Deakin passed away December 20, 2022, in Brigham City, Utah at the age of 84.  He was born June 10, 1938 to Fern and Jennie Abbott Deakin.  He was raised in Blue Creek, Tremonton and Fielding Utah.  He attended Bear River High School where he met his love, Judith Owen.  They married August 2, 1957 in Fielding, Utah where they resided until purchasing a home in Tremonton, where they raised their family.  Judy passed away February 1, 2016.  Due to strokes Vern has resided at Maple Springs in Brigham City the past 3 years.

When they were first married Vern worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.  He then went to work for Harris Truck and Equipment.  For a short while he worked for Thiokol Corporation after which Mr. Harris asked him to come back and take on the position of Parts Manager which he did until retirement. Mr. Harris opened a parts store in Las Vegas for a few short years in which he asked Vern and Judy to manage.  They enjoyed their time in Las Vegas, but was eager to return home to their grandchildren.

Vern was very active in The Boy Scouts program.  He loved working with the youth and adults! He was the recipient of many awards, culminating in receiving the honorary Silver Beaver Award.

Upon retirement Vern became very active in family history.  He found hundreds of names of family members to do their temple work for, in which he recruited help from all his family, friends and neighbors.  Vern and Judy were called to work at the Logan Temple where he served as an Officiator.  They enjoyed their years serving there together.

Vern’s hobbies included taking his boys fishing, hunting, motorcycle riding, and pine nut picking. He was very creative and   loved making something out of nothing.  Sunday night milkshakes were the grandchildren’s favorite.  Vern and Judy enjoyed taking rides out west and enjoyed doing so with their good friends.

Vern is survived by his sons Brent (Tami) Deakin, Craig (Jalyn) Deakin. Grandchildren Sheena (Brett) Fukui, Chandlie (Tyrell) Neal, Britten (Darci) Deakin, Cambria (Dallen) Soffe; and 8 great grandchildren.
