Vida Butler Jensen, wife of Vay Speirs Jensen, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of her eternal companion on Aug. 19, 2013, in Perry, Utah. Each of her children and some of her grandchildren had some special time with her before her passing. We recently had a family gathering to celebrate her 90th birthday. She had the party so she decided she didn’t have to stick around for the birthday.
Mom was born on Sept. 20, 1923, in Garland, Utah, the youngest of ten children born to Heber Close and Rose Zipporah Marsh Butler. She grew up on the farm in Garland and attended school there graduating from Bear River High School in 1941.
Mom and Dad became acquainted after Dad’s friend brought Mom to a dance in Bear River City. They dated for three years and were married on Dec. 15, 1943, in the Logan LDS Temple. They lived on their dairy farm east of Bear River City for over 60 years. Dad passed away Aug. 16, 2004.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the gospel and taught us with her sweet spirit and by her example, to love the Lord. She served diligently wherever she was called to serve in the church and community.
She loved music and could often be heard singing around the house. She enjoyed singing with the ward choir and with the singing mothers.
She and Dad loved to dance. She was a talented seamstress. She enjoyed embroidery work and crochet. She was a wonderful cook and the greatest mother. She made sure we had all the opportunities we desired to develop our talents.
Mom is survived by her six children: Janet (Keith) Winward, Riverdale; Seth (Jean) Jensen, Roy; Mary Ellen (Charles) Greene, Bear River City; Floyd (Elaine) Jensen, Garland; Rosalee (Danny) Thain, Benson; Leon (Kikue) Jensen, Orem; 23 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Geniel Butler, Salt Lake City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vay, nine siblings and one granddaughter.
The family would like to express gratitude for the loving care Mom received during her time at Beehive Homes of Perry, at Maple Springs in Brigham City and also from the many home health and hospice nurses who loved and cared for her.
