Yvonne Ashby

Garland - Yvonne Ravsten Ashby, 82, passed away at home on September 18, 2013. She was born January 22, 1931 in Logan, Utah to Bennie J. and Eunice Ravsten and was raised in Clarkston. She graduated from North Cache High School and attended Utah State University. On September 12, 1950 she married Marvin Ralph Ashby. They raised 8 children and lived the past 54 years in Garland.

Yvonne was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She also served in many capacities in scouting, PTA and various church callings.

An accomplished pianist, Yvonne taught piano lessons for many years. She and Marvin played in an orchestra called the Serenaders and later with their children organized a family band. Yvonne accompanied many groups and choirs and was a member of the Utah Music Teachers Association.

Yvonne volunteered at the Bear River Senior Care Center. She also was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She and Marvin served a mission in the West Virginia Charleston Mission. Later they served as officiators at the Logan Temple.

Yvonne loved gardening, and also enjoyed traveling. She loved learning new things and took many classes. One of her greatest joys was reading and she kept volumes of journals. Optimism and love were her gifts to all who knew her.

Her family would like to sincerely thank Mavis and the nurses and care givers with Intermountain Homecare and Hospice.

Yvonne, is survived by her children, Annette (Michael) Bair, Lorene (Paul) Saunders, Laurin (Holly) Ashby, Rodney (Rose) Ashby, Douglas (Dana) Ashby, Lyle (Angela) Ashby, Gary (Jennifer) Ashby, Diane (Ryan) Ball; 52 grandchildren and spouses, and 42 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Melva (Wally) Cottle; Jean (Mel) Cottle; Milton ( Rosemary) Ravsten.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother Ben Eugene Ravsten, and a daughter-in-law, Janet Baugh Ashby.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Garland Tabernacle (140 W. Factory St. - Garland). Viewings will be held Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home (111 N. 100 E. - Tremonton) and on Monday from 9:30-10:30 at the Garland Tabernacle. Interment will be in the Garland City Cemetery.
